Macrosoft, a leading provider of professional services for Visual Basic 6, Visual FoxPro and Classic ASP migrations, continues its commitment to supporting organizations with legacy technology transformation. While Visual Basic 6 and Classic ASP were once cornerstone development languages in Microsoft’s ecosystem, they have since been discontinued (VB in 2008 and ASP in 2020). Through our advanced proprietary tools and refined methodologies, Macrosoft has established a proven track record in successfully transitioning legacy applications to modern technology platforms.

Download NowIn September 2024, Macrosoft conducted its third annual “State of Legacy ASP/VB6 – Support, Modernization, and Migration in the United States” survey. This comprehensive survey, consisting of 20 carefully crafted multiple-choice questions, was distributed via SurveyMonkey. We reached out to our extensive network of professionals, and the response was remarkable – 263 participants from over 100 identified companies contributed their insights, marking our highest participation rate to date. This significant increase in participation, nearly tripling last year’s numbers, provides an even more comprehensive view of the industry landscape and strengthens the statistical significance of our findings.
1.Modernization Approach: The survey shows a more balanced approach to legacy system handling in 2024, with 43% of organizations planning data migration, 30% choosing archival, and a notable 26% actively seeking expert guidance. This distribution suggests organizations are moving away from Legacy Applications toward more strategic, tailored approaches.
2. Strategic Shift: There’s a clear trend toward managing smaller, more focused applications, with 38% reporting 11-25 screens, compared to previous years’ preference for larger applications. This shift likely reflects modern architectural preferences and the re-engineering of monolithic systems into more modern components.
3. Modernization Priorities: The 2024 data shows a more pragmatic prioritization of modernization goals:
4. Implementation Timeframes: Organizations display more realistic expectations about modernization timeframes, with 33% planning for 7-12 months and a significant 14% acknowledging projects might take over 25 months.
